If you’ve noticed a sudden influx of cars, trucks, bikes and more sporting pink valve caps, you’re not alone. There’s been a lot of pink about and it’s thanks to Downtown Volkswagen that our rides have been ‘pinked’ up – all for a great cause.
Throughout the entire month of October, Downtown Volkswagen has been leading the ‘Pink Caps for Cancer’ fundraiser, where, for a minimum donation of $5 to the Northern Cancer Fund, people received a set of 4 pink valve caps for their ride. 100% of funds raised through this initiative have been earmarked for breast cancer care locally here in Northwestern Ontario.
“Our team wanted to do something that was fun and for the community. With breast cancer awareness month, we thought this would be a great idea as breast cancer has touched so many, including our family,” said Devan Mascarin from Downtown Volkswagen. “It’s incredible the response we’ve had. I can’t even tell you how many people have come in and shared their stories with us, which has been truly overwhelming – I don’t think any of us expected that.”
Continued Mascarin, “What our team really wanted to do with this fundraiser was have something that was impactful, but also tangible at the same time. The pink caps are noticeable and inspire conversations between people – and – they remind you of that good feeling you got making a donation.”
Thanks to Downtown Volkswagen and all those who’ve purchased caps, breast cancer diagnosis and treatment continues to be exceptional at our Cancer Centre. For the 1 in 9 women and 1 – 2 % of men who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, it is critically important to have the very best equipment to diagnose breast cancer quickly when it is most treatable and treat it with the most advanced equipment possible.
