Hospital and Health Research Institute Celebrate Another Year with 2017 Annual General Meeting

The Boards of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute invite the public to join in celebrating another year of success and highlighting our shared goals and objectives for the upcoming year.

The special guest and keynote speaker will be Dr. Sheldon Tobe, Heart & Stroke Foundation/Northern Ontario School of Medicine Chair in Aboriginal and Rural Health Research, Associate Scientist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Dr. Tobe will be presenting on Northern Health Disparities: The Importance of Research to Improve Health outcomes for Indigenous Communities in Northwestern Ontario.

Dr. Tobe is now engaged with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine to facilitate research in rural and Aboriginal communities based on the principles of social accountability. Dr. Tobe's research is focused on improving the lives of people with or at risk of developing kidney disease by focusing on the prevention, diagnosis and control of hypertension. Current projects include the relationship of stress and its management and hypertension, microalbuminuria and hypertension, and renal vascular disease.

Our Annual General Meeting will also feature presentations by:

Lakehead University/Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Chair; Senior Scientist, Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute
Research activity and how it translates to improved patient outcomes and/or experiences, particularly for Indigenous patients and families
