Hospital's Volunteer Association Helps to Benefit Paediatric Patients

The Volunteer Association to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre made a generous donation that will help improve the quality of paediatric care for patients in Northwestern Ontario.
The donation supported the purchase of new medical equipment for young patients. “Providing quality care to paediatric patients in our region is very important to us. With the new Paediatric Bronchoscope and Paediatric Bronchoscope Instrument funded by our Volunteer Association, we are now better prepared to provide safe, quality care to our youngest and most precious patients,” said Christine Erickson, Operating Room Manager.
A Paediatric bronchoscope set is usually used to remove a foreign body from a child's throat, often in an emergency situation. The new instrument completes our set, and is small enough to use on very young children and infants, enabling our doctors to safely and successfully scope and treat a patient of any age.
“We are very grateful to have such a dedicated group of volunteers who work so hard to raise much needed funds for our Hospital. Their generosity plays a vital role in providing our paediatric patients with an enhanced hospital experience,” said Erickson.
The Volunteer Association to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre raises funds through Season’s Gift Shop and numerous other fundraising activities in order to purchase equipment that enhances care and experiences for patients and their families.
“We have such an amazing group of volunteers who selflessly donate their time for the benefit of our Hospital and its patients and families,” said Margaret Power, President of the Volunteer Association. “We’re proud to support patient care in any way we can, and we’re especially happy to know that this year’s donation will improve the level of care provided to our most precious paediatric patients.”
