In celebration of National Volunteer Week, we are happy to honour and thank over 800 Volunteers who contribute their time and energy to our Health Sciences Centre and Health Sciences Foundation!
Meet Laurie Clarke, who is one of the many volunteers of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation who make a positive and impressive impact to our organization which allows the Health Sciences Centre to have world class healthcare. Laurie began volunteering with the Health Sciences Foundation in 2009 and jumped into the experience with both feet! Laurie is an outstanding example of what makes volunteers so amazing! Laurie believes that one of her life purposes is to volunteer her time and energy to admirable causes. She notes, “I feel connected in my community through volunteering at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation special events to raise money for healthcare.”
No stranger to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, Laurie is a Committee Member extraordinaire. She is currently a committee member on the 5 Forks Bachelors for Hope Charity Auction that raises money for breast cancer care and the Tbaytel Motorcycle Ride for Dad that raises money for prostate cancer care. Laurie spends a significant amount of her free time helping make world class health care a reality for Thunder Bay. Volunteering for an event is a more than just a night of commitment. The committees begin meeting 8 months from the event, at first meeting monthly, and then increasing their meetings up until the big event.
As well as attending committee meetings to make decisions about the events such as meal choice and event organization, you can often find her out and about trying to recruit bachelors and working tirelessly to help our events gain sponsorship and prize packages. She is also often a spokesperson for our events by doing radio spots and taping promotional ‘Around Town’ segments to advertise the event. She makes this look easy as she is extremely well connected and known in the community and just such a people person.
Laurie not only takes time out of her busy life to attend committee meetings and the actual events but she puts her whole heart and soul into the event. She is known around our office as an upbeat outgoing person with a say yes attitude and we couldn’t be luckier to have her!
