Starlight Children’s Foundation® Canada has been brightening the lives of seriously ill children across Canada for close to 30 years now. Nowhere is this more evident than their ongoing donations to the Paediatric Department of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. This year they provided a grant of $2,000 to support the purchase of toys and activities for therapeutic distraction to assist children in coping when admitted to the Paediatric Inpatient Department.
Manager, NICU and Paediatrics at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Chris Purdon said, “We are very grateful for the ongoing support our patients receive from the Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada. Over the years we’ve been so lucky to receive multiple donations for our Department. Last year’s donation provided DVD players and gaming devices for kids and I know that these most recent funds will be put to great use as our current supply of toys is getting very low. When children are admitted to the Health Sciences Centre, they will greatly benefit from toys and activities to keep them happy and healthy when they’re here and not focused on their illness or injury.”
Starlight partners with Toys“R”Us Canada each year to raise funds locally through its in-store Starlight Star donation program. Store Director, Tracy Switzer, has seen the community step up each year to support this program and knows the importance of having the funds raised stay local. “It’s incredibly important,” she said. “When people hear they can make a difference to the care kids receive in our local community, they are extremely supportive.”
You too can help make a difference in the lives of seriously ill children. Make a donation at your local Toys“R”Us Canada store while you’re out shopping this holiday season. |
