By Heather Vita - June 24, 2017
The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation is proud to announce that the unique Resolute Charity Walk is back as part of tournament activities at this year’s Staal Foundation Open, presented by Tbaytel. The walk is in support of the Northern Cancer Fund and gives participants the chance to walk a 3 km route through the scenic Whitewater Golf Course; highlighting the best views and scenery that players on the Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada will see as they play their final round in the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel. Walkers will have the unique opportunity to directly follow the final grouping of players as they make their way up the 18th hole for a spectacular and exciting finish.
"On behalf of the nearly 1,000 Resolute employees in Northwestern Ontario, we’re delighted to participate in the Charity Walk in support of the Northern Cancer Fund as part of the Staal Foundation Open here in Thunder Bay,” said Remi Lalonde, General Manager, Thunder Bay Mill Complex, Resolute Forest Products. “Our relationship with the communities in which we operate is at the heart of who we are; we want to contribute to a thriving Northern Ontario, with healthy people building healthy communities."
The Resolute Charity Walk is open to people of all ages and families are encouraged to join in. Registration is $20 for those aged 14 years and up, and free for kids under 14. It includes the walk, a t-shirt, as well as snacks along the way. Registration for the walk is available at healthsciencesfoundation.ca/charitywalk or by phone at 345-HOPE (4673). All registrants are encouraged to raise pledges in advance of the walk in support of exceptional cancer care through the Northern Cancer Fund and are provided with an online fundraising page to do so. This year, fundraisers have a chance to win 2 tickets anywhere Westjet flies, courtesy of Westjet. For every $100 raised, a ballot will go into the draw, which will take place July 16 at Whitewater, following the conclusion of the Staal Foundation Open, presented by Tbaytel.
On July 16th, registrants will check in at the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m., and start walking at approximately 4:00 p.m, depending on the pace of play.
