Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre got a significant funding boost last month from Janssen Inc., a pharmaceutical company of Johnson & Johnson. Thanks to a $20,000 gift from Janssen Inc., Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, under the direction of Dr. Walid Sharhour, will be establishing a Prostate Health Clinic that will provide clients with timely access to a urologist when there is concern about prostate health. The Prostate Health Clinic is being developed in partnership with Superior Urology, Prevention and Screening Services, Regional Cancer Care Northwest, Diagnostic Services, and Ambulatory Care at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Specifically the donation will fund educational sessions for professionals related to:
- appropriate testing and referrals to urologists around prostate health,
- gaining experience in applying innovative clinical practice in the diagnosis of prostate cancer, and
- multidisciplinary approaches to the management of advanced prostate cancer.
The donation will also provide a preceptorship at North York General Gale and Graham Wright Prostate Centre, with Dr. Stanley Flax, for two specialists and will allow for the development for educational tools to be utilized by physicians across Northwestern Ontario. This generous donation will enable urology services at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to continue to develop a Prostate Health Clinic that will serve the men of Northwestern Ontario with exceptional care.
