Thunder Bay 50/50 Marks 12 Months of Millionaires

The Grand Prize has already exceeded $1,400,000 with two weeks remaining in the August 50/50.

The Health Sciences Foundation has reason to celebrate this month as the Thunder Bay 50/50 lottery has reached an unprecedented milestone, marking its 12th consecutive month with a Grand Prize exceeding $1,000,000. It took less than a week for the August 50/50 to hit the million dollar mark, made possible by the strong support of the community. With two weeks remaining in this month's draw, there's plenty to look forward to, including Early Bird draws every weekday and a special $100 Summer Bonus Ticket Package.

"Speechless is the only word I can use to describe this monumental achievement," says Glenn Craig, President and CEO of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. "I never could have dreamed that when we started this lottery back in January of 2021, three years later, we would be achieving monthly Grand Prize draws of over 1M+."

However, this success story is not just about big cheques; it's about changing lives both for the winners and for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. The funds from the Thunder Bay 50/50 are making a significant impact by providing crucial medical equipment and technology that might otherwise have taken years to fundraise for. We are looking forward to making some major announcements this fall.

While many of the winners are from Thunder Bay and region, the lottery has also attracted participants from across Ontario. Many have indicated that they have personal connections to our area or a strong appreciation for supporting local healthcare. Without this program, those dollars would never have made their way north to support our Hospital.

One recent Thunder Bay winner, Weston Igo, reflects on the impact of his win back in February: "Life has become a lot more comfortable since our win. Not having to worry about bills has been a huge relief. The Thunder Bay 50/50 lottery has been nothing short of amazing. It's given us the freedom to pay off debts and let my wife leave her job to help with the family business. We're now looking forward to exciting travel plans and making new memories together. I'm living proof that anyone can win, and it's been a transformative experience for us."

To date, the Thunder Bay 50/50 has awarded over $43 million in prizes to winners across Ontario. In just the last 12 months; nearly $18 million in total prizes have been awarded.

For those feeling lucky, tickets for August's draw are available online at www.thunderbay5050.ca or at the Thunder Bay 50/50 store inside the Intercity Shopping Centre. As Weston's story shows, it only takes one ticket to win!
