Marnics Mobile Helps Bridge Technology and Healthcare for the Betterment of Children at the Hospital

For many children, a hospital visit can be full of uncertainty and anxiety. The environment, unfamiliar faces, and “scary” looking medical equipment can easily overwhelm them. Marnics Mobile is helping change this experience by adding new mediums for entertainment, solace and familiarity to their hospital visit in the Paediatrics Unit (1B).
Recognizing a need that goes beyond traditional medical care, Marnics Mobile has recently donated 10 Google Chromebook laptops and 5 Apple iPads to the unit.
However, this donation goes beyond just providing fun distractions. For many young patients, momentarily losing themselves in a game or movie offers a sense of normalcy, turning an intimidating hospital ward into a space that feels more like their very own room at home.
Brittany Oliver, Certified Child Life Specialist at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, expressed her enthusiasm for the newly received gadgets. “Performing procedures like needle pricks or IV insertions can be quite overwhelming for children,” said Oliver. “Having these devices on hand not only offers them an entertaining diversion but also helps our staff create a calmer environment during treatments.”
Marcus Cupello, Owner of Marnics Mobile was quick to act upon learning about the need for new technology and entertainment devices inside the Paediatric Unit (1B).
“I remember my hospital visits as a kid weren't the most pleasant,” Cupello reflected. “By donating these devices, we hope to ease some of those jitters. At a young age, hospital equipment can be quite intimidating. We're glad to make the stay of our youngest patients a bit more comforting.”
