Michelle L., Registered Nurse & Heather P., Registered Respiratory Therapist, Paediatric Emergency Transport Team, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre encourage you to donate on Giving Tuesday. Your donations will fund vital equipment like a ventilator and defibrillator, to complete a second Paediatric Transfer Deck for our Hospital! Your donations will be matched by the Sandra Schmirler Foundation!
Today is Giving Tuesday, and people around the world are coming together to give back to the causes that matter most. Following the hustle and bustle of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday offers us a chance to shift our focus from shopping to making a real difference in our community.
For the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, Giving Tuesday is used to help kick off the season of giving. “The support we receive on this special day has been truly incredible and vital to the work we do year-round,” says Lindsay Doran-Bonk, Manager, Digital Engagement at the Foundation. “In previous years, donations on Giving Tuesday have funded hundreds of thousands of dollars in life-saving equipment, including pacemaker generators and a defibrillator for the Operating Room, open heart instrument trays for Cardiac Surgery, vital signs monitors, Bili Blankets to treat newborn jaundice, Panda Infant Warmers, and a Fetal Telemetry Monitor for Labour & Delivery, just to name a few.”
This year, the Foundation is focusing on raising funds to complete a second Paediatric Transfer Deck for the Paediatric Emergency Transport Team. While one Paediatric Transfer Deck is already in operation, a second deck is urgently needed to ensure the team can respond to even more critically ill children. To complete this deck, we are fundraising for two essential pieces of equipment: a ventilator and a defibrillator.
The goal is to raise $44,000 in 24 hours, and with the generous support of the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, every donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling the impact of each gift.
The Sandra Schmirler Foundation, founded in honour of the legendary Canadian curler Sandra Schmirler, works to ensure that babies born too soon, too small, or too sick receive the care they need in a NICU equipped with life-saving equipment. Their mission resonates with our goal to provide the best possible care for our youngest and most vulnerable patients.
"The addition of this equipment to complete the second Paediatric Transport Deck will be a game-changer for our team and the families we serve," says Janessa Grootenboer, Acting Regional Paediatrics and Transport Coordinator. "This equipment will enable us to respond to emergencies more quickly, especially in remote and underserved areas, where access to specialized care can be limited. It's a crucial step in ensuring that children across the North receive timely and life-saving care."
Your support today can make all the difference. Make your gift and help fund equipment to complete a second Paediatric Transfer Deck. Your donation will ensure that children in our region receive the best possible emergency care when they need it most.
