Thunder Bay Autosport Club: Driving Forward in the Fight against Cancer

Thunder Bay Autosport Club committee members and participants at last year's fundraising event.

The Thunder Bay Autosport Club (TBAC) has a history of combining their love for motorsport with community service. Established in 1967, the club has been actively involved in various fundraising activities, supporting causes such as the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Arthritis Society, and Camp Quality.

In 2014, TBAC started collaborating with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation to support cancer care in Northwestern Ontario. This initiative is especially significant for the club's president, Gary Adomko, who lost his father to lung cancer in 1972. While the partnership briefly paused due to COVID-19 restrictions, TBAC is back on track and more determined than ever to make a meaningful impact.

TBAC members are passionate about giving back to the community. Last year, their efforts raised $3,811.50, bringing the grand total raised to $76,981. The club extends its gratitude to all members and supporters, including Karen and Ed Fukushima, and Brad Folino of Halfway Motors Nissan, for their invaluable contributions.

The club's racing programs, including Ice Racing, Autocross, and Time Speed Distance Road rallies, not only provide thrilling experiences but also promote safer driving skills. Recently, TBAC hosted a precision driving event, where participants navigate their vehicles through a course of cones to achieve the fastest time. Each race day features a unique course design and location, challenging drivers to adapt to diverse conditions. Competitors race against the clock within their respective classes, completing between 2 to 6 runs per event.

Thunder Bay Autosport Club is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to promoting motorsport and enhancing driving skills. The club offers various racing series aimed at improving driver safety and is deeply committed to community service through its numerous charitable fundraising efforts.

Looking ahead, TBAC continues to support the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation and aims to surpass last year's fundraising total. Their commitment to both motorsport and community service remains strong as they strive to drive positive change in the region. The next fundraising event is scheduled for Sunday, August 18th, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre's Turtle parking lot, in support of the Northern Cancer Fund.
