The Squash Cancer Charity Tournament was launched in 2015 by a trio of dedicated organizers who had been deeply touched by friends and family battling cancer. This inspired them to raise money for local cancer care in our region which garnered the support of the Northern Cancer Fund.
In 2018, the tournament gained significant momentum with the help and support of the Silver Fox group. This partnership has been pivotal in expanding both the reach and impact of the event.
In its inaugural year, the tournament began with just 30 participants. This year's tournament, held on April 19th – 21st welcomed an impressive 82 participants and raised a record amount of $6,350, contributing to a grand total of $15,250 raised over the years, thanks to the generosity of sponsors, players, committee members, and volunteers.
Participants and supporters alike come together not just to play squash but to rally behind a cause that touches so many lives. Looking ahead, organizers express optimism for the future of the tournament and its continued impact on cancer research and care in Northwestern Ontario. With plans already in motion for next year, they aim to build on this year's success and further strengthen their contributions to the fight against cancer.
