Farewell to the Bachelor Auction, Hello to Chase the Case!

For the last 25 years, the Bachelor Auction was a staple event in the community, bringing people together for an evening of philanthropy and entertainment. Throughout its history, the auction raised more than $1.3 million for the Northern Cancer Fund for Breast Cancer, ensuring that all proceeds supported breast cancer care, research, education, diagnosis, and treatment in Northwestern Ontario. The chance to bid on date packages with local bachelors added to the excitement, making it an annual tradition that many looked forward to. Notably, the Bachelor Auction also helped form lasting relationships, with several women meeting their husbands through the event.
In 2024, the Bachelor Auction concluded its remarkable run with one last memorable event featuring a lineup of local firefighters. The event raised an impressive $77,003, marking a successful end to a cherished tradition. Looking ahead, the Foundation is excited to introduce Chase the Case: A Charity Auction Showdown, a fresh and dynamic fundraising event that brings a new level of excitement and interaction.
Chase the Case will feature a game-show-inspired format, with 15 silver cases each containing prize packages inside. The prizes are revealed at the start of each round, but their placement remains a mystery, adding an element of strategy to the bidding process. Participants will have the option to purchase a “Phone the Banker” opportunity, sponsored by RBC, providing insight into which two cases are most likely to contain a specific prize. Once all the cases in that round are selected, they are dramatically opened and the participant wins the prize inside, offering an engaging and strategic twist on the traditional auction format.
This event will be hosted by Spencer Hari, with Kevin Cernjul returning as the auctioneer. Cernjul reflects, “Being involved with the Foundation for their events is always an exciting experience. With Chase the Case, I'm looking forward to another thrilling evening filled with anticipation and community support.”
The Foundation is grateful to all those who contributed to the success of the Bachelor Auction over the years and is eager to continue its legacy with Chase the Case, which promises to be just as impactful while introducing a modernized approach to fundraising.
Chase the Case will take place on Friday, May 30th, at the Valhalla Inn. Community members are encouraged to gather their friends, family, or colleagues and take part in this exciting new event, with prizes designed for group activities.
