The Holiday Season is almost upon us! The air is certainly crisper, and Christmas movies are ramping up on the W Channel (or so I hear...)
It's also an exciting time of year here at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. Earlier this month, I attended the inaugural Resolute Hearts Around the World event at Fort William Historical Park. I was blown away, as I think everyone was, by the incredible dishes and wine pairings. The fact that there was a live auction to visit the country featured in each course was a great, creative touch.
We have a number of events and special days coming up next month that will allow all of us to spread some cheer this year. First up: Giving Tuesday on December 3, 2024.
Giving Tuesday is an international day of generosity that lands after Black Friday and Cyber Monday to support charitable organizations. In past years, the Foundation has chosen one item from the Christmas Wish List for Giving Tuesday. This year, our goal is to raise $44,000 for a second Paediatric Transport Deck for infants and babies in the region who need emergency transport to Thunder Bay for care. Plus, every dollar you give this Giving Tuesday will be matched by the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, so you can double your impact. We'll be posting on social media on December 3 to let you know more.
Speaking of the Christmas Wish List, we have two other items that you can help us give to the Hospital. The Starlight Fun Centre for Paediatric Patients provides a much-needed escape, offering child inpatients a chance to be kids again through fun, interactive video games. Cribettes for Paediatric Inpatient Rooms provide safe, reliable transportation for our smallest and most fragile patients. They are much better for taking children to other areas of the Hospital than the bulky medical cribs that are hard to move.
You don't have to wait until Christmas to start helping children in need. Read about these items on the Christmas Wish List and donate to one of them here: healthsciencesfoundation.ca/wishlist
Lastly, it wouldn't be the holidays without the December Thunder Bay 50/50 Draw – and this year is set to be another record breaker. We can't wait to share a ton of exciting new changes that we're making to December's draw, based entirely on feedback from our supporters over the last year. Check the Chronicle-Journal and the Health Sciences Foundation social media channels and website for full details of the record-shattering December 50/50 on November 28, 2024. Don't forget – you can pop into the Thunder Bay 50/50 store as well when you're Christmas shopping at Intercity. It's shaping up to be an exciting holiday season in 2024. I hope you'll join us as we spread a little cheer to patients across Northwestern Ontario.
