Keeping Hearts Beating

A heart’s job is to pump blood, and when it can’t, nothing good comes of it. Thanks to you, a new Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump in the Critical Care Unit can provide support when a person’s heart is too weak to pump. It improves blood flow throughout the body, keeping that person alive.

Also because of your generosity, a new Pacemaker Generator is in place to help patients whose hearts aren’t beating fast enough, which can happen after a heart attack. Every day you’re giving people time to beat the odds.

Dr. Zaki Ahmed

“Everyday I work to take care of the sickest patients in our Critical Care Unit. Thanks to my professional training, I know what to do to provide the best care possible, but the care I can provide is hindered by not having the right equipment. Thank you for your donation; because of it, we can save more lives
and reunite patients with their families.”

Dr. Zaki Ahmed, Chief of Staff and Critical Care Physician, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

I feel lucky...

“I realized something wasn’t right when I was loading freshly-printed brochures into my van. When I got to the Health Sciences Centre, it was determined that I was having a heart attack. I could feel the compressions. I was going into a sweat,” says Doug Brown, Founder and President, Thunder Bay Lettershop.

Thanks to you, the right equipment was available to save Doug’s life.

“The stars lined up for me that day. The timing, the resources that were here – everything. I’m very grateful.”

Doug Brown
